Wedding planner

A wedding planner is essential when you do not have time to organize the wedding yourself. The wedding planner makes sure that the happy couple also is happy during the months and weeks before the actual wedding. The perfect wedding planner is able to organize the wedding exactly like you would do yourself if you would have done it. Though costs are high, with a wedding planner you get what you pay for; someone who is able to keep the road to marriage as much stress-free as possible.

A great wedding planner is able:

  • To plan wedding expenses according to the set budget and keep within that budget.
  • To come up with a checklist with all chores and activities and keeps the bride and groom involved.
  • To make decisions by herself when situation asks this of her/him.
  • To follow up with all parties involved, ranging from bridal cake delivery to gown fittings, from preparing and sending out invitations to hiring a wedding band.
  • To keep track on who's attending the wedding and who's not, plus keeps in mind who has special dietary needs.
  • To arrange hotel accommodations for all the guests.
  • To advise in chosing the right honeymoon (and is also able to organize it).
  • To organize a bachelor and bachelorette party.
  • To come up with the best seating arrangements.
  • To handle all logistics on the wedding day itself.
  • To prepare personal thank you cards for the guests.
  • To do all the administrative chores relevant to the wedding (in Malaysia).

Questions to ask your future wedding planner:

  • How many weddings have you planned?
  • How many within the last six months?
  • How long have you been planning weddings in the area?
  • Do you have references from your most recent weddings?
  • Are you familiar with planning a wedding abroad?

Obviously the next step is to meet up if you have asked the questions above over the phone or via email. Get to know your wedding planner and find out whether he or she suits you. There is nothing worse than hiring a wedding planner that you don't like personally. Be careful when hiring or getting your own friends to act as a wedding planner, you may end up losing more than you bargained for.

If you are thinking of getting married in Malaysia you could also consider hiring a local wedding planner. One of the benefits is that it will probably be cheaper plus he or she will know the local way of handling things better.
